From the\u00a024 to 28 February 2026<\/strong>\u00a0loads the\u00a0ITQ GmbH<\/a>\u00a0together with the Spanish\u00a0Dr Stetter ITQ S.L.U.<\/a>\u00a0to the\u00a0SMART GREEN ISLAND INNOVATION FESTIVAL<\/strong>\u00a0. The event will take place at the Technical Museum \u201eElder Museum<\/a>\u201ctakes place in Las Palmas, in the heart of the capital of Gran Canaria. In total, around\u00a0750 participants<\/strong>\u00a0together to explore future technologies, sustainability, science and education.<\/p>\n

The Technical Museum provides a common framework for three closely interlinked innovation formats: the\u00a0SMART GREEN ISLAND MAKEATHON, Technology Workshops<\/strong>\u00a0for\u00a0local schoolchildren<\/strong>\u00a0as well as the\u00a0international scientific conference<\/strong>\u00a0EUROCAST<\/a>. The venue symbolises the fusion of technical heritage and the modern world of technology. In doing so, it creates an inspiring environment for exchange and collaboration.<\/p>\n

Creative ideas for a circular economy<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The SMART GREEN ISLAND MAKEATHON 2026 centres on the theme \u201eCirQmind \u2013 A Circular Economy through a Circular Society<\/a>\u201c. Around\u00a0200 young talents from 25 countries and over 30 universities, as well as 100 representatives from institutions and companies<\/strong>\u00a0work in interdisciplinary teams on\u00a0real-world technology challenges<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The areas of application range from waste identification (e.g. through image recognition using drones), through collection using mobile robots, the sorting and automation of recycling processes, to the manufacture of new packaging and components (e.g. recycled filament). Modern technologies from the following fields are utilised:\u00a0Robotics, automation and artificial intelligence.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Promoting an interest in technology amongst children<\/h5>\n

To foster an enthusiasm for technology as early as possible, the MAKEATHON also offers a wide range of activities for children and young people in the Canary Islands.\u00a0300 pupils<\/strong>\u00a0can build on their knowledge and enthusiasm for technology this week and take part in\u00a0Take part in eight different technical workshops free of charge<\/strong>. The workshops are offered by German universities, the\u00a0Gerda Stetter Foundation: \u201eTechnology is fun!\u201c<\/a>\u00a0as part of the EU-funded research project\u00a0\u201eEduDemoS\u201c<\/a>\u00a0as well as the Canary Islands\u2019\u00a0The Sergio Alonso Foundation<\/a>. The focus is on the following topics\u00a0Robotics, programming and electronics<\/strong>\u00a0with particular reference to sustainability.<\/p>\n

The event taking place at the same time at the museum\u00a0EUROCAST<\/strong>\u00a0amounts to approximately\u00a0150 participants from 20 universities<\/strong>\u00a0together. Scientists and experts from various disciplines discuss current issues relating to technology, research and innovation.
